Kate spade new york goes good… real good this time.  They’ve partnered with Women for Women International, creating Hand in Hand, a microenterprise project for women facing economic hardships in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The fair-trade project has been developing over the past four years and continues to expand today.

Kate spade takes their designs to community towns, employing women in the depths of desperation. They are taught how to knit and have created some amazing pieces. The women making the collections can apply handcraft techniques from their own culture while also benefitting from Kate spade’s artistic direction. The project generates a consistent income and fair wages for these women, rights they’ve been denied of in the past.  Women for Women International works onsite the projects, providing training and assistance in knitting the collections’ handmade items. Recently, kate spade new york’s creative team took a trip to Bosnia to source product and develop upcoming collections. The adventure only confirmed the team’s original incentive to help women worldwide. They saw how influential the project really is, having the power to reinvent real life stories.

As we approach winter, get your hands in some warm wool mittens like these, $95 takes bosnian women on their path to self-sufficency. This siberian tiger scarf ($165) and patterned pom pom hat ($125) are both quite cute as well!
