What do vodka bottles, steel tension springs and surgical tubing have in common?
They are all materials Melissa Kolbusz the creator of the jewelry line [Wired] has used in her one of a kind handmade collection.
Kolbusz created [Wired] in 1999 out of frustration for the accumulated amounts of materials that were going to waste when it could have been reused. As a result she took action partnering with local industries to reinvent and revamp the surplus produced by these businesses that would otherwise end up in a landfill. The result, beautifully designed sustainable jewelry crafted locally by hand. Each piece has a story of where it was collected and how it was made with care. The material used in making each piece of jewelry is meant to be worn and will last for years to come.
Some of our favorite pieces in Kolbusz collection included her Assemblage Necklace and Cuff which is made of rubber from labels of Effen Vodka bottles collected from the Metro in Chicago and steel wire encased in stainless steel tension springs in which the springs have been removed steel. If you are looking for a new piece of jewelry or are looking for something unique I would check out Kolbusez collection [Wired]
