Green Beauty, At Your Local Drugstore: CVS Pharmacy

By on February 3, 2011

For this week’s drugstore of choice at CVS, I want share with you personal care products that I use myself.

Organix Enriching Cucumber Yogurt Shampoo, $6.99 for a 13 oz bottle (on sale for $5.24 online or at regular price at your local CVS Pharmacy)

For the hair:

A steadfast L’Oréal Kids shampoo fan for many years, I finally graduated to adult shampoo when I discovered Organix my freshman year of college.  They’ve got the usual spiel of organic ingredients and earth-friendly packaging, but best of all, they smell AMAZING.  It’s nice to know that you don’t have to give that up to healthy and responsible!  Alongside Organix stands Avalon Organics in the shampoo aisle.  Their eco-conscious pledge makes them a worthy candidate for the green stylist to consider.

These two, side-by-side, attract different personalities: Organix seems to be an easy transition into green hair care for that occasional green stylist, while more the serious may opt for the sober packaging of Avalon Organics.

Avalon Organics Clarifying Lemon Shampoo, $9.49 for an 11 oz bottle (on sale for $7.12 online or at regular price at your local CVS Pharmacy)

For the prickly little hairs:

One of the first products that caught my eye were the CVS branded Triple Blade Eco-Friendly razor. What makes the razor eco friendly is all in the handle. They are made from plant-derived plastic and therefore are biodegradable. For a few cents more than a regular razor they are a smart choice to make.

CVS Pharmacy Triple-Blade Eco-Friendly Razor, $4.59 for a pack of four (at your local CVS Pharmacy)

For the face:

I’m big on facial masks – I’ve used every kind there is – and I prefer the goopy kind you paste on your face and wash-off once they’ve dried.

My fiancé doesn’t like the mess and prefers for an easy peel-off mask, so he introduced me to the Freeman brand. I was excited to find that my fiance’s favorite mask brand has a greener option: Good Stuff Organics Revitalizing Facial Mask – it’s free of parabens, dyes, or sulfates.  The mask formula includes organic pumpkin enzymes, organic chamomile, organic apple, and fair trade cocoa butter – we can both be happy with this choice!

Freeman Good Stuff Organics Revitalizing Facial Mask, $6.99 for a 6 fl. oz squeeze tube (only available online at CVS.com)
