The Aquatic Zen of Wabisabi Green

By on February 11, 2011

Having grown up on the California coast, the ocean with its beauty and profundity has been a source of artistic inspiration and contemplation for me. Based on her throw pillow designs, I would say that this is also true of artist and designer Jolee Pink, whose company Wabisabi Green is based out of coastal Encinitas, California. Her aquatic-inspired throw pillows and ceramic sculptures also convey a dedication to the Japanese aesthetic wabi-sabi, which is centered around the beautiful imperfection and impermanence of nature.

Her chic and colorful graphic throw pillows are made from soft organic twill printed with environmentally safe water-based inks. The pillows can be bought sans insert, with an ecofiber insert made of recycled water bottles, or with a silky organic kapok fiber insert sustainably harvested from rain forests. Her collection features 32 pillow designs from three lines: Leaf, Shore, and Zen. The pillows speak for themselves–their bright colors and cheerful graphics are sure to make any room more inviting. Equally charming are Wabisabi Green’s line of reusable tote bags, which are on sale for the month of February. Also made of organic cotton, these totes are definitely a better alternative to the non-woven poly propylene bags recently found to contain high levels of lead and other heavy metals.

I love so many of the pillow and tote designs that I decided to show you them all!
