The rise of “fast fashion” in the 90’s has chanced the way fashion and apparel is made in our world. Out of Fashion shares the story of wasteful fast fashion industry. The mass-produced fashion brands are pumping out more garments for less money. Some bring new product to the sales floor every several weeks, and consumers are chasing the trends to stay ‘current’.
Designer, Reet Aus wants to raise awareness of recycled and upcycled fashion through this documentary, the Trash to Trend campaign, and through her luxury collections by using textile cast-off materials.
I am very excited to see this documentary when it is released in the fall of 2012. Its message is inspiring and aligns perfectly with my efforts to live a Slow Fashion lifestyle. With interviews, hidden camera observations, experiments, and animations it will prove to be as entertaining as it is informational. I can’t wait!
