As a writer for The Green Stylist I’ve been lucky to discover some really great sustainable, fair trade brands out there that deserve some attention for truly making a difference in fashion. One of them I’d love to share with you is Komodo Organic Clothing. There’s a really awesome story behind the Komodo fashion line: As a teen in the 80′s, Joe Komodo backpacked through India, Bali, and Nepal and came back to London inspired to produce an eco-friendly, fair trade clothing line. An early pioneer of the eco-friendly, sustainable fashion movement, Joe’s clothing line “Komodo” has become a 20 year old company inspired to supporting small factories and artisans in the very places he first backpacked to in the 80′s.

Designed in London and manufactured in Bali and Nepal, Joe has even helped his factory in Kathmandu become the only factory in Nepal to be SA8000 certified, protecting the worker’s human rights and ensuring them fair wages and a safe work environment. Some of the materials he uses in his collection include soya, organic hemp, linen, organic cotton, bamboo, and pure new wool.
Here are two of my favorite pieces from the Spring 2011 collection:
The Komodo Kera Tunic, made from 100% sustainable rayon. This tunic features gorgeous embroidery cut detailing at the hem and lovely neckline details.
The Komodo Andorra Dress, also made from 100% sustainable rayon. The dress features a lovely wrap around waist and a sweet pastel swallow print.
You can see all of what Komodo has to offer right here, and they even have a men’s collection for those of you interested, as well as a Free Tibet collection dedicated to raising money and awareness for Tibet.
