Fair Tribe – Fairness and Fashion for All!

By on August 1, 2011

Fair Tribe was created through a “common dream of owning a hip, fun company, our shared belief that business can and should be both ethical and successful, and the desire to give consumers the power to make socially and environmentally responsible purchasing choices.”Fair Tribe offers “fun, fashionable eco-friendly designs and high quality green products created under the principles of Fair Trade and environmental sustainability.”  By setting up Fair Trade and Fair Labor partnerships, Fair Tribe supports the following principles:
  • Fair Price – workers and farmers are paid a fair price.  The true costs of production are respected throughout the entire supply chain;
  • Transparency and Accountability – Partners and consumers deal honestly, openly and respectfully with each other;
  • Empowerment and Opportunity – Fair Labor assists producers in gaining independence.  Many of the cooperatives Fair Tribe partners with are worker owned and give back to their community by investing profits in local schools, health care clinics and other social programs;
  • Sustainability – Fair Labor means farmers and artisans respect the natural habitat and are encouraged and supported in their use of sustainable, environmentally friendly production methods.

An example of this is a new partner of Fair Tribe’s: IDEO (the first French designer to launch an ethical and environmentally friendly products range in 2002).  They use 100% certified organic cotton grown by small producers in India.  In four years this company has grown from 19 to 350 employees! A welfare system has now been implemented and the factory is supporting a local school.

Fair Tribe offers a fashionable collection of clothes for women, children and men.  I love the versatile skirt/dress by Jonano featured below ($65).  It’s made from ecoKashmere, an eco-friendly knit made of viscose from organic bamboo blended with a touch of organic cotton and/or spandex for a perfect fit.

Check out the collection of IDEO’s organic baby onesies here.  My favorites are featured below.

Ecogirl Saving the Earth ($20)

I can’t wait to purchase some baby clothes from Fair Tribe for my soon-to-be nephew! I feel good about supporting a company who has the best interest of both people and Earth in mind.

Happy Shopping!
