By on November 10, 2011

As if the approaching Holiday season was not enough reason to try a juice cleanse, The Green Stylist is pleased to announce our November giveaway to all of our amazing readers!

This month, we are partnering with CAN CAN Cleanse, San Francisco’s 3-day seasonal cleanse program that gives your body a break from the stress and toxins of your on-the-go lifestyle. Bathe your digestive tract in nutrient and vitamin-rich beverages – made from whole, organic fruits and vegetables, herbal teas, raw nuts, fresh herbs and spices – and let your digestive system rest and relax. This month, one lucky member of our community (local to San Francisco and Bay Area) will win a FREE 3-Day cleanse – I am already excited for the future lucky winner!

We interviewed Teresa, the brilliant Founder of CAN CAN Cleanse was lovely enough to share some details with us about juicing, cleansing and her favorite juice recipe.

Q: How did you get introduced to juicing? What made you want to share it with the world?

Juicing was an epiphany! I woke up one more morning and decided, “I need a juicer!” I had been looking for a way to use the aging vegetables in my refrigerator and juicing sounded like a wonderful new hobbie. I was leading cleanse programs for various friends and family members and doing the juicing for them (few had their own juicers nor were excited by the laborious task). I loved juicing and seeing the reaction from others when they tasted their first green juice. Our bodies easily absorb the nutrients from fresh juice and I was seeing physical and mental benefits of those around me. Everyone can benefit from short, seasonal cleanses, but you have to make it approachable, tastey and dare I say fun?! CAN CAN Cleanse strives to emobodies all of three of these!

Q: Tell us about the Can Can Cleanse. What are some of the expected benefits?

CAN CAN Cleanse is a seasonal, 3-Day Cleanse program that asks you to take a timeout from your routine eating patterns to give your body and mind a much-needed rest. When’s the last time you felt 100%? Time to get back to feeling good! Each day, you enjoy 8 beverages; 2 green vegetable juices, 2 fruit juices, 2 herbal teas,1 savory soup and 1 nut milk. We source local, organic produce, use herbal teas, raw nuts, fresh herbs and spices. Our cleanses offer warming componets (teas and soups) to add comfort and contrast to the otherwise cold juice beverages. With the seasons, our cleanse menu changes; Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer encouraging our clients boost energy, shed a few pounds, curb cravings, break bad habits, rediscover mental clarity, better sleeping patterns, eliminate toxicities, and be invigorated to eat healthfully after the cleanse.

Q: What  is the hardest thing about doing a juice cleanse? Any recommendations for first-timers?
The hardest part of a cleanse is willpower! I can bottle the juices, but I can’t bottle the willpower for you. Cleasning benefits and challenges the mind just as much if not more than the body. It’s an exercise in self-restraint, discipline and mindfulness. I recommend first-timers do a cleanse with a friend or in a group. Support is key as it helps motivate as well as holds you accountable. Pre-cleansing is also vital. I recommended 2-4 days before starting the cleanse to focus on weening off of vices such as caffeine, alcohol, sugar, salty or greasy foods, dairy, etc., drinking lots of water and commit to eating smaller portions and a vegetarian heavy diet.

Q: What is your favorite juice of the cleanse? Can you share a favorite recipe?
My favorite juice the the Lemon Ginger Juice. It’s the first juice to wake you up in the morning. In addition to the lemon and ginger, we spice it up with cinnamon and my homemade cayenne peppers. Lemons are an excellent source of vitamins (C, A, B6, folic acid) and minerals (potassium, magnesium) as well as alkaline forming to support healthy pH levels. The citrus zing combined with the pep of ginger (our tummys love ginger!) makes for a better-than-coffee good morning!

How to make CAN CAN’s Lemon Ginger Juice at home:
2 TBS Lemon Juice
1/2 tsp Ginger Juice
dash of cinnamon
dash of cayenne
12 oz filtered water

Shake, drink cold or heat-up to warm-up on cool mornings!
