Brian Linton, a long-time ocean enthusiast, founded United by Blue in May 2010. For every product sold, UBB removes one pound of trash from oceans and waterways through company organized and hosted cleanups. Using this business model they are on pace to collect 100,000 pounds of trash by the end of 2011, and 1 million pounds by the end of 2012. This Philadelphia-based company offers a wide range of products running the gamut from organic cotton t-shirts to waxed canvas bags.
“One of the online holiday shopping trends for 2011 for the cause conscious consumer is to purchase gifts that give back,” says Linton. “And every purchase made in time for the holiday season will remove one pound of trash from oceansand waterways when our cleanup season starts up again in early spring 2012.”

When you purchase an item, you get to choose to help UBB with a clean-up of your choice (Gulf of Mexico, Plymouth, MA or NYC). Check out the pictures below from a couple of their most recent clean-ups.
