AFIA Clothing: Handmade in Ghana

By on April 17, 2012

AFIA brings to mind one word: AMAZING!

If you haven’t heard of Afia yet let me introduce you to a fabulous fair trade fashion brand that is not only sustainable and eco-conscious, but super fashion forward. With it’s vibrant textiles (all hand picked by founder Meghan Sebold in Ghana) and unique styling details, you can be sure to find more than one must-have for your summer wardrobe!

While in Ghana studying the local textile industry, Meghan saw a business opportunity for Ghanian textile and pattern makers to work with American consumers and provide a unique product all sourced and produced locally in Ghana. She personally shops the markets of Accra and discovers one of a kind, culturally rich prints and patterns for her collection.

Featuring high waisted shorts with pops of acid green, the perfect peplum skirt, and an adorable cropped vest, this label has both style and smarts with it’s emphasis on fair trade. Check out some of my favorite images from their Summer 2012 collection below:

If these images don’t have you itching for a summer wardrobe full of gorgeous Ghanaian prints then I don’t know what to tell you! I was mesmerized by their beautiful collection of clothing and can’t see what they have in store for next season.

Personally, I’m drooling over the Afia python print skirt below. Picture it paired with a simple cotton racerback tank this summer, and you’ve got a perfect outfit with a definite wow factor.
